Configuring the Remote Control Grad (Advanced Edition)

Reached from: Main Menu -> Remote Control-> Configure button

This screen is where you tell DMP which receiver you have and (if the MR26A) what serial port it is connected to.

If you have the serial receiver (the MR26A) (even if you are using a Serial to USB converter):

Remote ConfigThe first step is to tell DMP which Comm port your receiver is plugged into.  If you aren't sure, try each port until you get a response when you press a button on the transmitter.  Here's how: Click on any available Comm port button to open the port.  If the program can't open the port, because it isn't configured in your computer or some other program has it open already, you will get an error message.  (If you plugged your USB to Serial adapter in after loading DanceMaster, you can use the "Re-scan Serial Ports" button to tell DMP to look for your new serial port.)   Make sure the red light on the receiver is lit.  Then press a button on your remote.  You should see the numbers below the Code Set box change as you press different buttons, and a green or yellow dot should appear briefly in the Remote Control box on the main menu.  If not, DMP doesn't hear your remote.  Select a different Comm Port and try again.  The Reset Port button might help, too.

If you have the USB receiver (the CM19A):

Remote Config USB

You have it a bit easier than the serial folks.  All you have to do is plug the receiver in, make sure the red light is lit, select CM19A, press a button on the remote, and confirm that you get numbers in the box on the right side of the scren when you do.

No matter which receiver you have:

Because the remote uses radio waves, it is possible for another cuer in adjacent hall to inadvertently operate your copy of DanceMaster.  Fortunately, you can change the remote to use one of 30 different code sets.  DanceMaster Player lets you pre-define up to three different code sets for each type of receiver, so you can switch easily if you need to.

The X10 Form button takes you to the place where you can teach DMP new codes.  (Be sure you have the Receiver / Code Set combination you want to work with selected before you click that button.)

If you are likely to find yourself teaching a dance at a festival or a weekend, you might want to set up an alternate code set or two now, BEFORE you start your teach and find that someone else is controlling your computer!  The next page shows you how.
