Mark As Played Threshold form

Reached from: Main Menu -> Lists.

When you play a dance, DanceMaster doesn’t necessarily consider it “Played” right away. This is because we often play a “sample” of the music as the dancers are getting up. But at some point, we want to record the fact that we have indeed played this dance, both for dance logging and for the Playlist screen.

I couldn’t decide when a dance should be considered “Played”, so you get to do it. If you set the threshold too low, DanceMaster will consider a dance played when you have done just a sample of it. This won’t have a significant effect unless you decide not to do the dance after all.  (It will show up in the “Dances Played” list on the Playlist form, but that won't hurt anything.)  If you do play it, it will be listed twice in the “Dances Played” list.  Again, no real harm done.  For logging and popularity purposes, DanceMaster will ignore multiple playings of a given dance in the same night.

If you set the threshold to a number higher than the number of seconds of music in your dances, DanceMaster will consider a song played only when it has played all the way through. The downside to choosing this option is that if you happen to run out of cues before you run out of music and you end the song abruptly, DanceMaster won’t ask for a head count OR log this dance as played.  But, of course, YOU wouldn't do that, so it isn't an issue.

The trick is to set the threshold beyond the point that you "sample" songs, but short of the point that you might end the dance. Somewhere between 90 and 120 seconds is probably a good place to set it.  If you set it to "999", DanceMaster will never mark dances played.
